The annual Guns and Hoses Charity softball game is Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dimond Park softball fields. The Capital City Chapter of the Alaska Peace Officers Association started the charity mini-softball tournament in 2018 to strengthen their partnership with Juneau Special Olympics.  They also sponsor the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Juneau Special Olympics.

Proceeds from the team registration fees and food sales are given as a donation to Juneau Special Olympics, and are used to help the athletes and coaches support their bowling, swimming, and basketball teams.

The event is labeled “Guns vs Hoses Softball Tournament” to piggyback on their annual “Guns vs Hoses Hockey” match in December. Both are pitting a rivalry between law enforcement and firefighters.

To make it a 4-team tournament, the following organizations participate: Guns Team (JPD, AST, and others); Hoses Team (CCFR and friends); DOC/LCCC Team; USCG Team. The USCG team is the defending champion.

They will play three short pool-play games, and then have a full semifinal games and a final game.

Breakfast and lunch concessions will be for sale.
