AWARE announces 2027 Women of Distinction honorees in celebration of 30th Anniversary

AWARE on Wednesday announced five women have been selected for its 30th annual Women of Distinction honors: Jayleen Bydlon, Juanita "Nita" Coronell, Debbie Penrose-Fischer, Lillian Petershoare, and Emily Coate Thompson.
Nominated by members of the Juneau community, these women represent the many ways one person can make a lasting difference. Each has stepped forward where Juneau needed her — on the water, in the flood zone, in the homes of new families, and in the cultural life of our community.
Among this year's honorees are sisters Nita Coronell and Lillian Petershoare, who grew up together in the Juneau Indian Village. They are only the second pair of sisters to receive this recognition in the event's 30-year history, adding a particularly meaningful chapter to this anniversary celebration.
Since its inception, Women of Distinction has recognized women whose contributions reflect leadership, integrity, generosity, mentorship, and a deep commitment to others. The annual celebration offers the community an opportunity not only to recognize these women but also to hear their stories, honor their accomplishments, and reflect on the many ways women shape Juneau's future.
The 30th Annual Women of Distinction celebration will take place Saturday, March 6, 2027, at Centennial Hall. The evening will feature a catered dinner, silent and live auctions, and honorees discussing their experiences, values, and people who have inspired their lives.
Women of Distinction is also an important annual fundraiser for AWARE. Proceeds support the organization's work providing safety, advocacy, and essential services to adults and children impacted by domestic and sexual violence.
