Bartlett Regional Hospital earned a five-star rating from The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings List for 2025. A total of 291 U.S. hospitals received a five-star rating, and Bartlett is the sole five-star recipient in Alaska.
By using 46 quality measures, the CMS stars program helps both the public to understand how healthcare is delivered and for hospitals to note areas of improvement. The overall hospital rating ranges from 1 to 5 stars. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures of mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care. CMS rated 2,891 hospitals and only 10.1% of hospitals reviewed were awarded a five-star rating. Of the 46 measures in the report, Bartlett met or exceeded the national mean scores in 27 measures including patient satisfaction and mortality rates for pneumonia and stroke.
"The CMS Star Rating system provides great insight on the quality of care we provide to our patients and the region we serve," said Gail Moorehead, Bartlett's chief quality and compliance officer. "We are honored to be among an elite group of hospitals that achieved the highest rating offered by CMS. Our pursuit of excellence reinforces that our talented and dedicated team members at Bartlett continue to do everything it takes to deliver top-quality care to the region."
This award comes on the heels of Bartlett Regional Hospital earning The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval in September 2024 for Hospital Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. Bartlett is the sole health care organization in Southeast and one of 13 in Alaska with Hospital Accreditation by The Joint Commission.
