The Juneau Arts and Humanities Council (JAHC) announces the appointment of Maggie McMillan as its next executive director. She is set to begin Dec. 1.

McMillan is a nonprofit professional based in Juneau, Alaska, with a background in organizational management, fundraising, and community engagement. Her work has centered on building strong relationships, improving internal systems, and supporting the businesses and partners that help move Juneau forward. McMillan previously served as executive director of the Juneau Chamber of Commerce, where she was a clear and consistent advocate for small businesses.

During her tenure, she refined the Chamber’s programming, strengthened communications and helped deepen its role in the community. She later worked in donor relations and strategic partnerships for the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, contributing to long-range projects and key initiatives.

Alongside her professional roles, McMillan serves on several local boards and committees spanning community events, civic initiatives, advocacy work and land-use planning. Her earlier background in the arts includes being an honors thespian in high school and performing in choirs for more than a decade, experiences that helped shape her appreciation for creativity and community expression.

At the center of McMillan's life is her 14-year-old son, Ryder, who keeps her grounded and reminds her why community work matters. In her free time, she enjoys live music, disc golf, traveling and trying new recipes.

“I’m excited to step into this role and support the work JAHC is doing in Juneau. A strong arts community makes this a better place to live and work, and it also has real economic impacts for local businesses and families” McMillan said. “I’m looking forward to being part of that work and helping it continue to grow.”

The JAHC board of directors and staff members are looking forward to continuing the important work of the organization under her leadership.

"The JAHC is pleased to announce Maggie as our new executive director," said Stacy Katasse, the organization's interim director. "Her strong leadership brings fresh momentum to the organization and our staff is enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead as we enter a new chapter for the arts and humanities in Juneau."
