Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center is closing for maintenance over winter

The Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center will be closed for the winter, starting Oct. 7, to address deferred maintenance in the facility. Announcements of alternate locations for winter programming will come out soon.  

Maintenance for the facility will include renovation of the heating and ventilation system, replacing lighting and flooring, repointing stone masonry, and fire protection upgrades. Additional staff workspace is also being built inside to help support the busy season.             

The facility will reopen for the visitor season, serving the public seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., May 1 through Sept. 30. 

The trails and area surrounding the visitor center are open from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, year-round.
