Arnold Manfred Fischer, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Juneau, Alaska, on August 21, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Arnold lived a full and generous life marked by hard work, loyalty, and love for his family and community.

Born on April 7, 1935, Arnold grew up in Germany, where he developed a strong work ethic and a love for working with his hands. He proudly served his country in Germany before pursuing his education, eventually earning his Master Mechanic degree. In 1964, he made the bold decision to move to the United States, seeking opportunity and building a new future. Arnold continued his career with Local 302 Operating Engineers, starting first as a machinist at NC Machinery before making his way to Juneau Redi Mix, where he was master mechanic until his retirement in 1995.
On August 2, 1970, Arnold married the love of his life, Rita Harding. Together they built a beautiful life in Juneau, Alaska, where they continued to reside and raise their family. Their marriage of more than five decades was a true partnership, rooted in devotion, friendship, and shared adventures.
Arnold was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and proudly held membership in Local 302 for 50 years. His steady presence and dedication to his work left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.
Though hardworking and steadfast in his career, Arnold was just as passionate about life outside of work. He loved the quiet joys of fishing and the satisfaction of woodworking, often crafting with skill and precision on his lathe. He found joy in tinkering with projects, traveling, and always had a new plan or task in mind. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, teaching them through his example the values of patience, perseverance, and humor.
Arnold is survived by his loving wife, Rita; his son and daughter-in-law, Forrest and Lesley (Bowler) Fischer, and granddaughter Jordan Fischer of Boise; his grandchildren Mitchell and his wife Camryn, along with their son Link of Montana; and Lane and his wife Sam of Phoenix. He is also survived by his niece Bettina and great niece Leah, and other relatives in Germany. His family was his pride and joy, and he delighted in watching his legacy continue through them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elfrida and Herbert Fischer; his brothers, Dietrich, Hagen, and Eckhard; and is fondly remembered alongside his special friend, Fred Fiedler.
A memorial service will be held at the Moose Club in Juneau, with final burial services to take place in Mullin, Nebraska, at a later date.
Arnold’s family and friends will remember him for his strength, his warmth, and his unwavering dedication to those he loved. His story lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
