John A. Walsh, a longtime Juneau resident, died Feb. 22, 2026.

He was born Feb. 24, 1967, in Arlington, Massachusetts, where he was raised. John had many family and friends in Massachusetts, but Alaska called him and he relocated to Douglas in the early 1990s where he thrived.

John loved Alaska! He traveled and worked throughout Alaska, but Southeast was near and dear to John’s heart and livelihood. Hunting, fishing, crabbing, boating; his favorite spots included Pelican, Tenakee and the Taku River. He was a dedicated firefighter, officer and chief at the Douglas Volunteer Fire Department. He generously shared his time and knowledge with friends and those in need. He regularly contributed financial support to schools and local organizations.

John worked hard and played hard. John’s friendship meant loyalty, integrity and honesty. He enjoyed sweating with his buddies in the Douglas Sauna. He had a sense of humor like no other and had no problem laughing at himself! And what a laugh it was. He was a member of Alaska’s IBEW, Massachusetts IBEW, American Legion, Elks Member and the Knights of Columbus.

A Celebration of Life honoring John Walsh will be held on Saturday, June 6, at 4 p.m. at Louie’s Douglas Inn.  All who knew and loved John are welcome to attend.
