Longtime Juneau resident, Judy Darlene Keskinen, 79, passed away March 24, 2025, in La Mesa, California, after a short but courageous cancer battle.

Judy, daughter of Tracy and Lillian Bullerdick, was born in Anaconda and raised in Butte, Montana. In her early twenties she moved to Washington, and met lifelong friends Christine Larsson and Hjalmar and Martha Savikko. In 1968, Judy rode with Hjalmar and Martha on their F/V White Eagle to Juneau. The Savikkos introduced Judy to Erkki Keskinen and, after a short courtship, the two were married on August 24, 1969. In 1972, Erkki died in a hunting accident leaving Judy a single parent of two small children. Judy put herself through college and earned a bachelor’s degree in education and a minor in early childhood development. She used her degree to substitute teach in the Juneau School District, at Tlingit and Haida Head Start program, several other preschool programs and even as a private nanny/tutor. From 2000-2011, Judy worked at Fred Meyer as the friendly cashier at the garden entrance.
Judy was a member of Chapel by the Lake involving herself in the youth program and as a deacon. She was a member of the Sourdough Gems Society and made lifelong friendships while being involved in the community.
Children and animals held special places in Judy’s heart. She loved her grandchildren and their “plus ones” so much!
Judy was preceded in death by her husband Erkki, sister Marlene Yonge and brother Walter Bullerdick. She is survived by her daughter Chrisanna (Mike) Lesmann and son Erik (Bob) Keskinen. Judy is also survived by grandchildren McKenna (Tom) Faust, Logan Lesmann (Josie Williams), Parker Keskinen (Mari Johnson), Meghan (Quillan) Hink, and Presley Keskinen. Judy will be missed by many other family members and friends.
Chapel by the Lake will hold a celebration of life worship service for Judy’s friends and family on Saturday, August 23 at 2 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
