Katherine A Brown was born on July 30, 1951, in Juneau, Alaska. She died in Juneau on March 2, 2025, after living well for nearly eight years with metastatic cancer.
She was a third-generation Alaskan. Her father, David Alfred Brown, started the first aviation services in Juneau during the 1940s. Her parents met when her father was in flight school in the Midwest, and brought his bride, Nina Lois Park, to Alaska where they had an active life and raised three children.
Katherine is survived by her two younger brothers, one of whom, Dave, lives in Juneau. She never married and had no children.
She enjoyed the outdoors, Alaskan history and healthy cooking. She also loved animals and gardening. She lived most of her life in Juneau but also spent time in Anchorage, and in Hawaii — mostly on the Big Island where she trained to become a massage therapist. She worked for many years for the Alaska State Legislature, but decided to switch gears about 20 years into her legislative career.
Katherine had keen curiosity and was open to many philosophies. She was a proud Alaskan and collected works of art by Rie Munoz, Byron Birdsall and John Fehringer. She was a deep and quiet soul and will be missed by her friends, neighbors and fellow dog-walkers on Sandy Beach.
