Saturday, July 5, turned out to be a great day to run or walk up Mount Roberts.
Juneau Trail and Road Runners (JTRR) Race Director Linda Kruger welcomed participants, family and friends to the 2025 Goldbelt Mount Roberts Tram Run, thanked the Goldbelt Tram for sponsoring the race, providing tram rides down and tram passes for all the racers, and volunteers, and energy drinks, water and snacks at the top of the tram. Kruger also thanked Ron Flint and Kandi Claassen, with JTRR sponsor Nugget Alaskan Outfitter (NAO), who were on hand for the start of the race.
The racers left from the street in front of the Goldbelt Tram at approximately 9:05 a.m. After racing approximately 3.5 miles up South Franklin, turning right on 6th, left on Gold, up Basin Road to the Trailhead and then up the Mt. Roberts Trail.
Ian Curtis (23) finished first in 36:29. Timothy McKenna (25) was second with a time of 37:34 and Jason Norat (29) was third 37:41.
Heide Reifenstein was the first female finisher, continuing her winning streak from last year, finishing fourth with a time of 37:56.
Charles Thornton (14) was the fastest youth racer, coming in at 1:08:22. Curtis, Reifenstein and Thornton each received a bag of goodies from the Goldbelt Tram.
This was the 39th running of some form of the Mt. Roberts Run first initiated by Betsy and Scott Fischer in 1986.
